“Panzerkrieg: Volume 1″ is available for purchase! For those of you who took advantage of our pre-publication offer, many thanks, your trust, encouragement and hard earned money has enabled us to produce what we believe is our best book to date. All pre-orders have been fulfilled and should be in your hands.
If you’ve not yet ordered this book, what are you waiting for? You won’t be disappointed, but don’t just take our word for it. “Panzerkrieg Volume 1″ received an Editor’s Choice Award and is described as “impeccable”. Read more here:
This large book (with 568 pages and weighing in at 2.5kg / 5lb unpacked) contains detailed text, many maps and around 560 photos, the vast majority from veterans, private collectors and the author’s own archive. Retail price is AUD $125. Don’t wait too long as it is selling fast.
With the appearance of “Volume 1″ comes the inevitable question about future volumes. Rest assured work is already well advanced on “Panzerkrieg Volume 2″ which will cover the combat actions of Panzer-Regiment 2 (16. Panzer-Division) from the beginning of Barbarossa until its demise at Stalingrad.

In other news, “Island of Fire” will be available in a few months, reprinted by our American friends at Stackpole Books. We will be offering this book to our customers, so if you want to get a copy from us (signed bookplates will also be available), send us an email to get your name added to the mailing list.

After a long wait – much longer than expected due to the vast amount of work required – we are proud to announce the pre-publication offer for our forthcoming title “Panzerkrieg: Volume 1″, the first in a series exploring German armoured operations at Stalingrad.
This inaugural volume contains comprehensive histories of the three panzer battalions (103, 129 and 160) that were part of the motorised 3rd, 29th and 60th Infanterie-Divisions. A large number of incredible photos have been assembled, around 100 from the Bundesarchiv-Bildarchiv, the remaining 460 from veterans, private collectors and the author’s own archive, the overwhelming majority having never been published before. But don’t think this is “just” a photo volume; the operations of each battalion are covered in a detailed narrative accompanied by maps, aerial photos, tables and of course hundreds of stunning images. Be sure to check out the samples (click on the book pic above and then look for the 6 links to sample pages). This is a large book: same dimensions as “Angriff” to really show off the photos, but 568 pages in all, so it weighs in at 2.5kg / 5lb unpacked. It’s safe to say this is our biggest publication to date. Regular price of this title will be AUD $125, but if you take advantage of the 10% pre-publication offer, it can be yours for AUD $112.50.

We’ve also taken the opportunity to lower the prices on some of our other titles. “Into Oblivion” has been reduced from $80 down to $70, while “Iron Cross Brigade” has been dropped to $75. “Besieged: The Epic Battle for Cholm” and “An Artilleryman in Stalingrad” are approaching sold-out status, so if you don’t yet have a copy, now might be a good time to get one.

In other news, we have authorised Stackpole Books to re-issue “Island of Fire”. We must receive at least 2 or 3 emails a week enquiring about this long out-of-print book. For all those that have been asking, you won’t have much longer to wait. When it becomes available, we will be offering this book to our customers, so if you want to get a copy from us (signed bookplates will also be available), get your name on our list by sending an email.

Our latest title “Iron Cross Brigade” has now been published and the book despatched to all those who pre-ordered. The pre-publication offer is now over and the regular price is in effect. Our titles sell out rather quickly, so if you haven’t ordered it yet, do it now! :-) The book is based around the memoirs of Stug officer Werner Gosel, but it has been expanded by the addition of other information, accounts and photos of the battalion in action during Barbarossa 1941, Stalingrad 1942, Kursk 1943 and Bobruisk 1944. Be sure to check out the samples (click on the book pic above and then look for the 5 links to sample pages).

With “Iron Cross Brigade” now done and dusted, we are working hard on the first volume of“Stalingrad: Graveyard of the Panzers”. Volume 1 will contain comprehensive histories of the three panzer battalions (103, 129 and 160) that were part of motorised Infanterie Divisions 3, 29 and 60. If you own “Iron Cross Brigade” and “Objective Ponyri!”, you’ve surely seen the advertisement in the back of the book. A large number of spectacular photos have been found for each battalion. As most of the research has been done and writing is already well advanced, we plan on completing this book by the end of the year. Hold on to your hats, because this book is going to be fantastic!

Our newest title, “Objective Ponyri!”, is in stock now! Thanks to all those who pre-ordered the book. If you’ve not received your copy yet, it should be in your hands very soon. Initial reactions to the book have been very positive, a notable comment being the landscape format of the book that allows the many stunning aerial photos and maps to be displayed at a large size. If you are contemplating adding this book to your collection, be sure to check out the samples (click on the book pic above and then look for the 5 links to sample pages).

Now that we have taken delivery of this title, the pre-pub offer is over. Retail price is AUD $75. Signed copies are also available.

With the completion of “Objective Ponyri!”, our focus has turned to the next title, “The Iron Cross Brigade”, the nickname for Stug.Abt.244. This book is based around the memoirs of Stug officer Werner Gosel, but it has been expanded by the addition of other information, accounts and photos of the battalion in action during Barbarossa 1941, Stalingrad 1942, Kursk 1943 and Bobruisk 1944. Some exciting new material has come in during the past week. Stay tuned for more details. Also planned for publication towards the end of the year is the first volume in a series about panzer units at Stalingrad. Working title is “Stalingrad: Graveyard of the Panzers”. We are very excited about this one.

Not long now until “Into Oblivion – Kharkov to Stalingrad: The Story of Pionier-Bataillon 305″ is in your hands. We received an advance copy from the printer a week ago and it looks really good. We expect to take delivery of the entire shipment in a couple of weeks, so fulfilment of orders will commence around mid-September. Our appreciation to everyone for the patience and support. And thanks to all those who have pre-ordered the book. The response to this new title has been overwhelming.

The first stage of a two-tiered pre-publication offer is now over. Until we take delivery of the books, the pre-pub discount is now 10%, meaning you’ll pay AUD $72, but be quick, because before you know it, the retail price will be AUD $80. Please note: credit cards and PayPal will be charged immediately.

In a sea of constantly increasing postal prices, we have once again worked hard to find ways to make postage cheaper for our North American and UK/European customers by despatching them from the US. Postage for one copy of the book to a US address is AUD $12, to Canada AUD $26 and Air Mail to UK/Europe AUD $34. The Australian dollar has weakened considerably over the last few weeks, so now is a good time to order the book.

Lastly, we have dramatically lowered the price of many of our older titles. “Angriff” was $120, now it’s $100; “Croatian Legion” was $100, now it’s $80. The others are as follows: “An Artilleryman in Stalingrad” (now $40), “An Infantryman in Stalingrad” (now $40 for hardcover and $20 for paperback) and “Turning Point” (now $30). If you’ve missed one of our titles in the past, why not take advantage and fill that pesky gap on your library shelf.

If you want more information and updates about Leaping Horseman Books, why not look us up on Facebook. We’ve recently posted some colour slides of Pi.Btl.305 that will not be used in the book, as well as a few “then and now” comparisons:

Great news! Our next title, “Into Oblivion – Kharkov to Stalingrad: The Story of Pionier-Bataillon 305″ is completely finished and will be off to the printer by the end of June. The first stage of a two-tiered pre-publication offer is now in effect. Retail price of “Into Oblivion” will be AUD $80 + postage. A regular 10% pre-pub offer would take the price down to $72, but for the next two weeks, the price is $70. Please note: credit cards and PayPal will be charged immediately. On 2 July 2013, the price will revert to the regular pre-pub discount of 10%, making the price AUD $72, and will remain there until the book arrives back from the printer in July/August.

UPDATE 10 October 2011: All pre-orders of “Besieged: The Epic Battle for Cholm” have been shipped. Customers in Australia should have already received their books. Those in Asia, the UK and North America should start seeing them arrive in a couple of days. Customers in mainland Europe will need to wait a little longer: delivery to you guys is expected to begin early next week. Thanks to everyone for their patience. We hope the book meets or exceeds your expectations.

The pre-publication offer for this book is now over. Regular price is AUD $80. While packing books, we occasionally come across imperfect copies (misprinted pages, dinged corners, etc.). If you’ve got a tight budget, we can offer these for a substantial discount: at the moment, we have two such copies. One has a section of 16 misaligned pages (yours for $20 + postage), the other has about 30 pages lightly tacked together at the top with glue (very easy to separate but a slight blemish is left on the top of each page (yours for $30 + postage). If interested, please write to use for details.

As some of you may have noticed, Leaping Horseman Books has been very quiet since our previous update last December (the months certainly do fly!). Of course, there is a very good reason for this silence: we have been hard at work producing our newest title. We are proud to announce the release of the latest addition to the Leaping Horseman stable: Besieged: The Epic Battle for Cholm. For over 100 days, Generalmajor Scherer and a few thousand men held out against elements of two Soviet divisions. This small but fascinating engagement has been crying out for an in-depth book in any language… well, after utilising all available resources, such a book is available in English. Click on the image of the book to read more.

In an effort to combat rising costs in printing, so as to offer good value to our customers in the current jittery global climate, we here at Leaping Horseman Books have worked tirelessly to produce a high-quality book but at a lower price. By sourcing a new printer, we are able to offer this new title for the regular price of AUD $80.00, which is 20% less than comparable books released in previous years. What’s more, a pre-publication discount of 10% is in effect until we take delivery of the books (expected in early September). That means you only pay AUD $72.00. Furthermore, we have worked hard to offer cheaper postage options. Australia Post, Australia’s national carrier, continues to raise postage prices, but by making arrangements with an overseas distributor, we will be able to offer Air Mail postage at considerably reduced prices to our European customers. The best news of all is for those in North America: this book will be despatched from within the United States, meaning that you will pay only AUD $12.00 in postage. When combined with the pre-pub offer, this book could be yours for just AUD $84.00.

Several exciting projects are in the works. As reported in previous updates, a detailed history of Pionier-Bataillon 305 is on its way. Also in preparation is a fantastic title about certain panzer units, but more about that in good time! Finally, a multi-volume set about a significant Eastern Front campaign is in the initial stages.

Many thanks to all those who continue to support us by buying direct. Your business is greatly appreciated.

UPDATE

Sunday, December 12th, 2010

Our new title, “Croatian Legion: The 369th Reinforced (Croatian) Infantry Regiment on the Eastern Front, 1941-1943″, is in stock. All orders have been despatched. In you opted for Air Mail, you’ll receive the book shortly, if you haven’t received it already. Those who selected Surface Mail should expect to receive it in about February.

Thanks to all who have written with kind words about the book. Feedback is always appreciated.

The next title due for release is the detailed history of Pionier-Bataillon 305, from its formation until its demise in Stalingrad. Tentative release date is April or May 2011. A vast amount of rare material (photos, diaries, letters, etc.) has been gathered for this book which allows an insight into the thoughts and actions of one battalion. We follow the men from a life of relative comfort in France into the dark depths of Russia, experiencing combat from a pioneer’s perspective and feeling the painful impact of every man’s death. The quality and detail of information found for this book needs to be seen to be believed. The battalion was far from being a “glamorous” unit that covered itself in medals, yet the battles in which it fought make its story worth telling.
